Copywriter • Content Writer • Knitter
From social media copy to print ads to television to podcasts to websites to radio ads to...well, you get the picture — I've written for just about every medium out there, and enjoyed every minute. If there's a writing job you need help with, let's talk!
Gardenstead.com
Working first as a senior writer and then head of content with Gardenstead, I got to do the most amazing thing—write, plan and conceptualize content (!!) about gardening! As a bona fide plant enthusiast, I couldn't have imagined a more wonderful gig. It was a splendid contract with a great company and an amazing team. We grew a lot of things together, including our community—which we nurtured to include more than 500K gardeners.

We created videos about how to grow many things. This is one of my favourites —
could there be a more beautiful 'how to grow garlic' video?

I worked on scripts for Gardenstead's podcast. This one, about how
gardening benefits mental health, was particularly special to me.

I had the terrific privilege of writing branded copy for Gardenstead's website and of course, I also wrote many (many!) articles about gardening.
The brand's tone and manner is earnest, friendly and conversational (imagine a chat with a fellow gardener over a garden fence), which is right up my alley. Here are a few samples:

How to grow microgreens — a step by step guide

Chudleigh's Apple Farm
I created a number of communication pieces for Chudleigh's. But my favourites were these charming little coupons. Because why not use every opportunity you're presented with to have a friendly conversation with your audience?

The Greenbelt Foundation
The Greenbelt Foundation works to preserve a vital swath of green space in Ontario. It was my pleasure to work on this piece, which detailed the vital importance of this enormous and precious area. This was a great long copy project and overall a rather lengthy piece. Shown below is a snapshot of just a few of its pages.

Headwaters Health Care Foundation
Over the course of a few years, I probably wrote fifty ads, at least, for the Headwaters Health Care Foundation. Because the government does not fund the purchase of new hospital equipment, there was an ever-present need to speak eloquently to the community and give solid, relevant reasons to donate. Below, I've shared a few of my favourites from this multi-year newspaper campaign (plus, babies in hats = squee!).
Heritage Bee Co.
The Heritage Bee Co. is helping to save native Ontario bees, one colony at a time. The founder's chance discovery of a colony of small cell bees on her property led to a thriving, genuinely good-for-the-earth business that's full of truly good intentions, and good things. Like honey! Here are just a few pieces I had the pleasure to write for The HBC over the years.
Gears Bike Shop Group Ride
The assignment: write some ads — to run on the Gears website — inviting everyone to a casual group bike ride on which there would be absolutely zero pressure to perform, but maximum pressure to enjoy a Sunday morning ride with a gang of fellow cyclists. My kind of bike ride, frankly.
A few random favourites
I've realized I'm actually quite bad at keeping track of the many things I write in a year. Trolling through my files, though, I found a few favourites.
This ran on the side of TTC buses. Working on Perrier was a treat.
